America beat Pakistan in cricket? At the World Cup? WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE OF A BUC-EES? Everything you need to know about one of America’s biggest international sports upsets ever.
As an American living in the UK who has fallen in love with cricket here, loving the possibilities of cricket becoming more prominent in the US. I believe many people would love the sport if they were properly introduced to it! Great article.
Ooh good point. Under most circumstances they’d qualify before that (top 8 from the last tournament and the next two teams in the rankings get in automatically) but hypothetically they would be
Really enjoyed the humour. In fact, in India there's a meme that the Pakistan Team lost to an H1B1 team, but, honestly thats just India pak rivalry. I think that Team USA has played an excellent brand of cricket and yes going forward it will definitely impact the way cricket grows in USA.
As an Indian, there's nothing I'd love as much as America taking to cricket. We need another economic powerhouse in the fray, so that our administrators start behaving themselves.
Plus, all the sport's eggs shouldn't be in the South Asian basket.
Great article. Many of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence played cricket. The game floundered because few people had days to spare in which to play it. I believe it was an American cricketer who decided to abandon the chess side of playing and go for the checkers; he invented baseball, a version of rounders but with a ball a similar size and weight to cricket. The rest is history.
I'm not against cricket—I just have NO idea how it's played! I can follow American Football, what the rest of the world calls "Football" and we call "Soccer", Baseball, and Basketball.
But if you told me THIS was cricket, I'd have to believe you!
As a lifelong cricket fan I’m astounded to learn that not only does the US have a cricket team, not only does this team now compete internationally but…beat Pakistan?! Pakistan is a breeding ground for some of the greatest cricket players.
Play Ball as a baseball player and fan I’ve always had an interest in cricket but have never take the time to understand it . T 20 sounds interesting thanks for the article !
I can’t wait for news of the USA’s women’s cricket team. Women’s cricket has some great teams and players. Thanks be to YouTube for being a great place to watch some classic cricket matches. Also make sure to download the official International Cricket Council app.
sadly they went 0-4 last month at the women's T20 World Cup qualifiers... a bit surprising since USA has a history of women's teams outpacing men's teams in sports like soccer, rugby etc. hopefully they can level up before LA 2028

Do the West Indies not count in the “americas” region for World Cup qualifying? They are usually top 10.

The Windies have generally been decent competitors in world cricket.

Great article! T20 is very watchable and it took me less time to catch on to the rules than I expected. Everyone bandwagon onto Team USA!
