So happy for Alyssa Naeher - not sure if she got Woman of the Match, but she damn deserved it. She had sustained an injury which kept her outta NWSL play a few months back, and she'd have some howlers here and there, so I wondered if she was on the descent of her career. Welp, she was frigging amazing, and yet another reason why I'm not an NWSL pundit.
Not to make this an NWSL blog, but Chicago Red Stars are also adding Ludmilla, who was a PROBLEM in that finals match. It'll be fun to see her an Mal team up.
The USA Men's Hoops squad looked like they were having fun, and I'm good with that. We had an NBA Avengers Endgame moment there with KD, Steph and LeBron hookin' it up one mo' time. Good on them for bringin' it home.
Back on day 3 or whenever, when the US had only won four gold medals, I mentioned to my brother that just as the British realized their empire was over when all those countries became independent, the US will realize its empire is over when it's consistently not winning the medal count at Summer Olympics.
This is a bit of a joke, though. I don't really care about the nationalism aspect of the Olympics. I think Rodg has done a good job of writing patriotically while not taking it too seriously. I'd be fine with everyone competing without reference to nationality, though I admit it's the only way to organize the team sports.
Fun fact, silver medalist high jumper McEwen and silver medalist pole vaulter Kendricks both went to Oxford High where Ole Miss is located. Of course Wilson (relay) and Russel (hurdles) both got golds for their shared high schools.
STEPH CURRY FOR THREE!!!
Wow. Amazing. Boom.
Bravo for this nugget:
“Sabrina van der Sloot (a mashup of the New York Liberty’s backcourt!)”

Rodger I appreciate the Jim Jones reference, if nobody else appreciates the Jim Jones reference

Steph Curry definitely deserves to get more mention in the GOAT debates.
