I think saying kabaddi is "a tag style sport" is both accurate but also makes it sound way less badass than it is. I think it's better to call it "team wrestling style game" or "like rugby without a ball." Tag is perhaps the most accurate based on the rules, but based on the vibes and culture it's more like rugby/wrestling/football, but decidedly more minor league sorta like rodeo.
So excited to tell people in like 2038 that I got in on the ground floor of USA Handball. March Matness (the NCAA Wrestling Championships) starts today, and finals are Saturday night!
My favorite sports thing from the past week and a half:
Ukraine's Anna Maksymenko won the epee (fencing) grand prix in Budapest last weekend. She's only 17! She's had incredible cadet and junior results, but I think this is her first big result in senior competition. In the final bout, she got some *beautiful* touches on counterattacks.
About 15 years ago I did a youtube deep dive on obscure sports, and my favorite discovery was kabaddi. Second was tchoukball.

never watched, hoping to check it out this weekend
(which is why my explanation was vague and maybe inaccurate)
A) it's fun to both play and watch
B) you'll understand why you're both accurate and also way off
Basically, you're going to have a good time watching it this weekend
